Entrepreneurs at the City Club: Endeavor 10.15.08

“Can we have some music on,” my Endeavor contact politely requested. Actually, it was already on. There was such a buzz of chatter throughout the room, the sound had been drowned out. It isn’t hard to imagine that 140 international entrepreneurs would have so much to talk about. On Wednesday, October 15th, the City Club had the honor of hosting an all day meeting an evening reception for a International organization named Endeavor. Endeavor is an organization aimed at going into developing countries, searching out high-potential entrepreneurs and providing tools to pull them up into success. Thus creating role models with in turn inspires entire communities to move forward and create stable economic growth.

The City Club was just 1 stop on the tour of the Bay Area, for this international group of guests, who also visited Facebook and Google! The meeting portion of the day at the City Club included Breakfast, wonderful and insightful guest speakers from T.P.G Capital, Joie de Vivre and Salesforce, and Lunch in the Main Dining Room. Then everyone was invited downstairs to the Café where the organizers let them loose for plenty of idea sharing, networking, tastey bites and drinks.

Same Love, Same Rights

The City Club had participated in the GLBTQ Wedding and Family Expo in July, what a great wedding and event show it was! The Expo was hosted by Rainbow Wedding Networks and I have to say they did a great job! I was glad to recognize other bay area wedding vendors whom we work with such as Denon & Doyle, Kimpton Hotels and many more.... The attendance & response at the show was amazing. I was happy to see that couples welcomed the idea of celebrating their union together, and the whole family was involved too! I look forward to the increase of same sex unions pouring into the wedding market, and the November 4th election being a positive push for couples to decide to tie the knot! We have had a union joined together right here at the City Club.

Check back with us for some great photos of couples whom have celebrated their same sex unions with us!

Give Your Wedding a Little Extra Flair!

As your City Club on-site expert in wedding planning – I’ve decided to take a personal interest in making sure I know all of the who’s who in the wedding industry so I can make sure that we are sending you to only the best people and places in our San Francisco, Bay Area who can offer a great service from the beginning of your wedding planning process through to your big day!

One location I’ve discovered and can’t stop raving about is a store located in the newly declared “UpPo” (Upper Polk) called Flair – and let me tell you – they definitely have a “flair” for the fabulous life of a dedicated Bridesmaid! Since the topic of bridesmaid dresses is always so difficult with all of our different tastes, styles and body types, Flair has decided to embrace our differences as an opportunity for fun and elegance! As soon as you walk through the door, you immediately feel at home and know you’re in good hands! Suddenly the vision of the bride meets the practicality of the bridesmaid! Can this really be true?

On your next visit with your City Club Catering Manager, ask for the Flair Discount Coupon – they’ve offered to give all City Club Wedding Parties 10% off!!

Bourbon & Bacon Eases Pain of Networking

City Connections: Bourbon & Bacon
October 8, 2008

We had quite a networking event a couple of weeks ago – did you miss it? Over 50 members and guests came to try out some fantastic classic bourbon cocktails, featuring Bulleit Bourbon, Knob Creek, and more. The hands-down favorite was the Mint Julep, with fresh muddled mint and a good portion of bourbon! The bacon-wrapped scallops that Chef prepared were just one of the more popular combinations – but the guilty pleasure of the evening was the Apple-Bacon donuts with Maple Glaze, from Dynamo Donuts . These mini-versions of these gourmet morning dunkers were sweet, salty and delightful! A fun time was had by all, and the networking really started to flow – what better way to network than over cocktails? Be sure to join us next time for a City Connections networking & cocktail party as we offer more opportunities to get to know each other!

It was another beautiful wedding at The City Club on Saturday, September 13th. Ruba and Danielle put together wonderful event and with their all-star cast including Pico Soriano for flowers and Robert Barbutti as their photographer, how could they miss! Not only were the centerpieces beautiful and pictures timeless, but both Pico and Robert were professional and easy to work with.
As Brides and Grooms begin to plan their big day, they begin to realize how important their vendors are to creating a successful, well executed and enjoyable event for not only the guests but more importantly for the Bride and Groom.

So what’s a couple to do? Be careful with whom you choose, take advice from other friends and family that have used local vendors, shop around, and the biggest tip, once you find a vendor you really like (including a venue), ask them for recommendations. Great vendors
come in packs and nothing creates a more seamless event than using a group of professionals that have worked together before. You are going to get the best pictures when the photographer has shot at a venue before and knows those spots with the best lighting and hidden details. Your floral and design concept are going to come out better if your florist has experience with the lighting changes and subtle coloring differences of the rooms.

I guess the moral of the story is trust the ones who know. Hiring great vendors is the easiest way to having the day of your dreams!

Political & Hungry? We are here for you...

You asked…we answered! Politics have been on the minds of our members, for obvious reasons. The past two Presidential Debates have been drawing a nice group of members to the Member’s Lounge - and luckily, no fist fights have broken out as yet! . So if you are planning on watching the final debate on the 15th, why not stop by and enjoy some light bites from our complimentary buffet? We are always looking for ways to help you enjoy your membership. If politics isn’t your thing, what can we do for you?

We are also gearing up for Election Night on November 4th, and have just set aside the Café for members and guests to watch the Election Night results as they are announced and tallied throughout the evening. We’re putting up the big screen and hooking up a TV, so that we can watch on the large screen as reporters and pundits weigh in. Wear your “I voted” sticker and get a complimentary martini, or nosh on tasty Election Night bites served up from the kitchen. There is no charge to attend, and a full no-host bar will be available, so bring a group or just stop by on your own to check in! See you on November 4th!

You're Invited! Wedding Open Houses at The City Club!

In an effort to pamper our brides and grooms’ experience with us at The City Club we are excited to host a monthly Open House!

On the second Tuesday of each month, The City Club will lay out the red carpet. For those who have already booked and need a planning session with their catering manager, or for couples who are visiting the club for the first time, we look forward to seeing you here!

As this new program develops, we plan to have special guests from our recommended vendor list each month to showcase their specialty. Whether it’s Classic Party Rentals showcasing their elegant linens and tabletop accessories, or local bridal gown & bridesmaid boutiques showing off their latest designs – we’ll make sure present wonderful local vendors who are sure to extend The City Club’s expectation of seamless service from your City Club planning process through to your vendor selection and on to your big day!

City Club Weddings to Remember- Sakkal & Guzman 7.19.08

Doing something different! Who would have thought that pink and purple were the way to go in our Art Deco themed space? Take a look at what Natalie and Robert choose to accent their special day along with the help of their Planner, the always wonderful Cindy Danbom of Belle-Notte Events.

Photographs by Jennifer Skog

It just goes to show how versatile our space can be. It is always wonderful to see the classic Art Deco weddings because everyone always makes it their own but it’s also great to see clients challenge our expectations and create an event that is truly unique. Stay posted to see other ways couples traded in a classic theme for something really special.

A City Club Affaire- The City Club's Wedding & Event Show

The catering team at The City Club was pleased to host its 2nd Annual City Club Affaire- Wedding & Event Show this past Sunday, October 5, 2008.

Thank you to those who attended and gracious thanks to all of our participating vendors.

Our vision for the show was to create an intimate setting where guests could capture the feeling of a City Club event. We poured complimentary champagne, passed Chef Michael Munoz’s hand crafted hors d’oeuvres and delectable sweets and showcased only those vendors found on our recommend list. Each vendor on our list has developed a relationship with our team, worked events at the Club and provides services we trust to be exceptional.

Thank you to California Parking valet services for providing us with complimentary valet services. Peter Rudolfi for arranging the solo guitarist who welcomed guests upon arrival. Northern California Brides & Today’s Brides for their magazines and Marianne Kent Music for providing the lovely D’Jazz entertainment on the 10th floor Café.

Thank you to Classic Party Rentals, Napa Valley Linen, La Tavola Linen Company, for the gorgeous linens and table top displays. Floramor Studios, Floreal, Designs by Ricardo, Stacey Miller Designs, Branch Out for the beautiful, creative and coordinated flower centerpieces and arrangements. Special thank you to Elle Music & Entertainment for providing the lighting which really enhanced the overall feeling in the 11th floor Main Dining Room and created an evening ambiance during the day!

Compliments to Kathy Goodman from Well Rehearsed for representing her services by bringing in a yellow umbrella, table top displays and house-made tasty cupcake pops. All of your attention to detail really shined. Armel Reyes from Kimpton Hotels for providing the fun garters for the “Single to Sunrise or Naughty Girls” loved them!

Carolyn Wong, Cakework and Have Your Cake for the tasty cake treats and detailed cake displays. Amy Kuschel for showcasing two of her lovely designs from her latest gown collection.
